2009 Annual Blindness Prevention Seminar

Annual Seminar held during the
2009 RI Convention in Birmingham (UK)

The officers and Board members of the RAG for Blindness Prevention are particularly excited about this year's Seminar which was held during the 2009 RI Convention in Birmingham. In November of 2008, while exhibiting at the American Academy of Ophthalmology in Atlanta, GA (USA), we were located right next to the ORBIS  booth and had the opportunity to get to know some of their people.  At the end of the AAO meeting, we invited them to have someone from their London office participate in our Blindness Prevention Seminar during the Birmingham Convention.  To our great fortune, they sent the ORBIS CEO for the UK, Dr. Robert Walters, to participate in the seminar.  In addition, RAG member, Dr. Otis Paul, of the Rotary Club of San Francisco made a presentation.  Dr. Paul has led numerous ORBIS missions staffed with Rotary Volunteers.   ORBIS  also brought their display banners and two of their staff who spent the day with us in our RAG booth in the House of friendship.  It was very beneficial for both of us.  RAG Board member, "Kula"  Sabaratnam served as the Master of Ceremonies for the Seminar.  Kula is also a member of the ORBIS International Board of Directors.
